Your first step towards the right treatment

Many people live with a symptom for months before seeing a specialist. Sometimes it’s a swelling that comes and goes, bleeding that seems minor, or heartburn that keeps returning. Often the hardest part is not knowing whether it needs attention.

An outpatient (OP) consultation at Marina’s Clinic is where that uncertainty ends. You meet Dr. Preethi Mrinalini K, our Chief Consultant Surgeon, in a private consultation room in Nungambakkam. She listens to your concerns, examines you, and explains what may be causing your symptoms and what the next step should be.

A consultation does not mean you will need surgery. Many conditions can be managed with medicines, diet changes or simple monitoring. When surgery is the better option, you’ll know why, what it involves, and what your choices are.

Types of consultation

New consultation

For a new symptom or condition. Includes a detailed history, a physical examination, and a clear plan for any tests or treatment you need.

Follow-up consultation

Return with your test results, or to review how you are responding to medicines, diet or lifestyle changes. Free review within 7 days of your first visit.

Second opinion

Wound checks, dressing changes, suture removal where needed, and clear guidance on diet, activity and returning to work

Pre-surgery consultation

Once surgery is planned, this visit covers fitness tests, the procedure itself, what to expect in hospital, likely costs, and help with insurance paperwork.

Post-operative review

Wound checks, dressing changes, suture removal where needed, and clear guidance on diet, activity and returning to work

When should you book a consultation?

It is worth seeing a surgeon if you notice any of the following, especially if the symptom keeps coming back, is getting worse, or affects your daily life:

Groin or abdominal bulge

Swelling near the groin, navel, or an old surgical scar.

Anal pain or bleeding

Pain, bleeding, or a lump during or after bowel movements.

Upper-right abdominal pain

Pain beneath the right ribs, especially after meals.

Heartburn

Frequent burning in the chest or acid coming back up.

Lower-right abdominal pain

New or worsening pain in the lower-right abdomen.

Lower-right abdominal pain

A new lump in the breast, neck, or elsewhere on the body.

Swollen leg veins

Visible, enlarged, or twisted veins in the legs.

Slow-healing foot wound

A wound or ulcer that does not heal, particularly with diabetes.

Seek emergency care immediately if you have severe abdominal pain, a hernia that has become hard, painful and cannot be pushed back, heavy bleeding, or a high fever with abdominal pain. Call +91 98840 00171 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Conditions we see in the OP

Weight and metabolic health

General surgical conditions

Breast lumps, thyroid swellings, varicose veins, hydrocele, lipomas and other lumps, and diabetic foot

Consulting a female surgeon

Conditions such as piles, fissure, fistula or a breast lump can feel difficult to talk about. Many women feel more at ease discussing these concerns, and being examined, by a female surgeon. At Marina’s Clinic, your consultation is with Dr. Preethi directly, in a private room, at a pace that suits you.

What happens during your consultation

Depending on your symptoms, Dr. Preethi may suggest tests to confirm the diagnosis or plan treatment. Many blood tests can be done at the clinic on the same day. Others, such as an ultrasound, CT scan or endoscopy, are arranged at trusted centres nearby, and you return to review the results with her.
